MUSEUM DAY

We had to be out of our room at 9 o'clock this morning because someone was coming to practice the harpsichord today. So we got up really early and when I washed my hair, I discovered that my hair has one heat, which is low. Fortunately my hair was pretty dry when I started using the dryer, but I couldn't get any curve into it at all.

We are supposed to be having a sort of relaxing day today after our big marathon yesterday, so we have been to the Guggenheim and now we are at the Met.  neither of these is relaxing.

The Guggenheim is doing some revamping so they had a reduced price because they only had three floors open and none of the ramps were available. However we did get the Kandinsky Before Abstraction exhibit, which was the main thing we went to see.

We went to The Met which has a very nice, though small, exhibit of the Pre-Raphaelites. There is a wonderful tapestry with angels playing harps that actually has the harp supported by a scarf. Usually angels playing harps, no doubt because they're angels, are able to play them in ways that defy gravity.  Apparently someone in the Morris crowd had actually seen someone playing a small harp .   

The other new exhibit we wanted to see was the newly donated Thomas Hart Benton's murals,

which had been in the custody of a NY bank for 50 years or so.  

These murals are really glorious.  

At one point, Benton was Jackson Pollock's teacher, but they had some sort of a falling out and Pollock always snubbed him after that.  

We also spent some time in the modern wing looking at Cubist paintings.  Here's the amazing part.  We went to the gift store and didn't buy anything!!

We had lunch at the met and I got carried away by looking at the green grass outside.  It takes so little to please me.  

Once we left the museum we got on the always overcrowded 6 train and went down to TJ's to replenish the wine supply.  

I'm cooking salmon, broccoli and sweet potatoes for dinner tonight, and the I suppose we'll just sit around and drink all night.  I've tried to make that not happen by not chilling more than one bottle of wine.  We'll see if that works.
