WAR HORSE PFFFT GOVERNOR'S ISLAND YAY

Martha had her dojo here this morning.  It's a viol group, and I have no idea why they call it a dojo, which has something to do with martial arts, but anyway, we made ourselves scarce.

I went to my favorite eyeglass shop, Jeffrey's Manhattan Eyeland, but didn't really find anything that was all that cool.  I was hoping to get something in a green, but this is all they had, and frankly, they look too much like some turquoise glasses I already have, so I'm afraid it's a no-go.

We meant to get tickets and go to the matinee of War Horse today, but I misread the ad and thought they had moved out of Lincoln Center to another theater, so we went looking for a non-existent address instead of going to Lincoln Center, which is very convenient.  And then, we -- well, okay, I -- got distracted by a street fair on the way back to Lincoln Center, and it was such a nice day that we decided just to go to Governor's Island.

We had a wonderful time there last year, and this year's events were different.  Last year they were having a gigantic yoga extravaganza, and this year they were having glass blowing (a whole mobile glass blowing setup from Corning Museum),

a graphic arts show, and a huge poetry reading.  The glass blowing was creating some original pieces a non-glass blower had dreamed up, and after we watched for about an hour, they put the nearly finished product back to heat up and it collapsed.  Bad enough that that no doubt happens to glass blowers all the time, but I'm sure you don't particularly want to do it in a demo.  Frankly I thought the piece they were creating was kind of ugly (it was a replica of a plastic buoy, and you can see the one that didn't turn out right but didn't melt in the foreground of the picture --but once ten of them are done this designer is so well known that they will sell for thousands of dollars.  A man in the audience expressed some interest in buying the first one that had been made, which wasn't going to be sold because it had some bubbles, and when this one collapsed in the oven, the MC told him he could have it.  The guy on the left of the picture is the hotshot designer.

This is a really cool bike picture, but it shows how old I am because all I can see is how dangerous this is and how this guy could lose all his kids at once.

And the weather was really nice out there.  I'm just going to add some pictures of various things out there at the end of this.  We came back by way of Trader Joe's where we stopped and bought the only inexpensive wine in Manhattan, because the three of us seem to consume a monumental quantity of wine when we're here.  Then came home and had soup and salad for dinner with delicious leftovers from last night's Indian takeout.
